How our commission works
Free to join. You earn when your photos sell.
There are no monthly subscription fees or upfront listing fees. Upload your photos, set your prices and share your galleries.
When a customer buys a photo:
- You receive 90% of the sale price.
- PhotoGecko keeps a 10% commission.
- Standard payment-processing fees are included in our commission. They are not deducted again from your 90%.
- The customer pays the displayed price, with no extra platform fee added at checkout.
If your photos do not sell, you pay no commission.

Commission is calculated on the amount the customer actually pays after discounts. Refunded sales are adjusted accordingly.
You control your prices
You choose your photo prices and can see your expected earnings before publishing. For example, set a photo’s price at R100 and you will receive R90 when it sells.

Frequently asked questions
Do I pay a monthly subscription?
No. PhotoGecko has no monthly subscription fee for photographers.
Do I pay if I don’t sell any photos?
No. Commission is charged only when a photo sells.
Are payment-processing fees deducted separately?
No. Standard payment-processing fees are covered by PhotoGecko’s 10% commission.
Who sets the photo prices?
You do. Your earnings are 90% of the amount paid after any discounts.
How do I receive my earnings?
Your earnings are tracked in your seller dashboard. Sales clear 7 days after purchase, and PhotoGecko pays your available balance by EFT to your South African bank account in a payout run every 25 days. You can also request an earlier payout (minimum R100).
What happens if a sale is refunded?
The refunded portion of the sale and its associated commission are reversed, and your earnings are adjusted accordingly.
